COMPETITIONS & FESTIVALS

For those students keen to test and hone their skills in a competitive environment, we enter local and national festivals annually, and have enjoyed great success at both the individual and group level in a wide range of disciplines.

Tunbridge Wells Arts Festival

This Festival is held annually and students can enter a variety of classes from Verse Speaking, Acting including Shakespeare, Reading, Mime, Improvisation and Singing, both individually or in a group. Students as young as five can perform if they wish. Taking part in the festival is a wonderful, confidence-gaining experience. Students compete against a set of national standards, as well as students from other clubs and schools.

Our results have been consistently excellent, with students winning classes in every category.

All England One Act Play Festival

Each year drama clubs enter plays for the All England One Act Play Festival, the first round being held at the Barn Theatre, Oxted. This gives older students a chance to perform a short play or part of a play to a high standard in a proper theatre. Competition rules apply and our students not only compete against other youth teams but also against adults.

We have had considerable success over the years, winning many awards.

In 2009 we performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Obsessed, Riders to the Sea, and White Queen Red Queen. Vikki Gaffney won the Best Youth Actress, and Emily Sweetman won the Adjudicators Award.

In 2010 we performed Ernie's Incredible Illucinations and Hush Little Celia Jessica Barrett won the Best Young Actress Award and Matthew Martin won the Best Young Actor Awar.d Mary Pearson won the Adjudicators' Award for her direction of both plays.
