ACTING

Acting involves various disciplines, all of which students practice on a regular basis:

Acting is a very disciplined art and students are encouraged to learn this discipline alongside the freedom of improvisation and mime.

Improvisation is another form of theatre guaranteed to encourage new performance skills, stretching the boundaries by causing the participants to create theatre 'on the fly'. A lot of learning and a lot of fun is generated in this discipline.

Mime is a wonderfully expressive art that promotes the development of new avenues of communication and adds depth to an actor's performance skills. The communication of ideas and emotion without the use of words requires the use of facial expressions and acting with the whole body. These are vital abilities for any aspiring actor.

Verse speaking is an important tool for the actor. It helps the appreciation of the spoken word and is fundamental in the study of Shakespeare. All students are encouraged to practice the speaking of verse and prose, either in a group or individually. Verse speaking is also useful in teaching students how to make a presentation, a skill which can be used outside the drama environment in any future career.

Whether a student wants to train to follow acting as a future profession, or simply wants to enjoy learning acting skills, we will encourage them to develop at their own pace and to get as much out of the experience as they can.

Working in a controlled environment, learning theatrical skills is both enjoyable and fulfilling. Learning is also geared towards the relevant graded internationally recognised exams for those students wishing to take them.
